On September 7, 1984, Esther was last seen leaving Chama, New Mexico, school. After picking up her paychecks from the Branding Iron restaurant, where she worked as dishwasher, she and her best friend, Cindy Redwine, drank whiskey and went to the grave of Esther’s infant sister, who had passed away many years earlier.

Esther told Redwine she loved her parents and was sick of hurting them at the graveside. Following that, the friends split up. Around noon, Esther and an older man went to Redwine’s house. She was extended an invitation to go camping. Esther was also told not to go by Redwine, who refused. In his Bronco, Esther and her male companion drove off.

Though Esther was never heard from again, her wallet was later discovered in Chama. After she vanished, there were rumoured sightings of her in Colorado and the New Mexico cities of Farmington and Albuquerque, but none of these reports were verified.

Esther was last seen with a man who Redwine claimed to know. When Redwine asked him where she had gone, he replied that he had left her at Redwine’s house. He denied harming her after she informed him that she was aware of how false his story was.

This person reportedly moved out of the Albuquerque region after Esther vanished. He hasn’t been named in the media.

Esther was supposed to testify as a witness in the case of a bar owner when she vanished. He had received a ticket for letting a minor enter Ben’s Lounge. Before the trial even started, she vanished.

Whether Esther’s scheduled testimony is connected to her disappearance is a mystery. Her family and friends, however, learned after she vanished that she had allegedly been murdered at a party at Ben’s Lounge the night before.

Esther, who had five younger siblings, attended Escalante High School in 1984. She envisioned herself as a beautician. She had previously run away from home for brief periods, dating older men, and occasionally indulging in alcohol, but she had never been gone for this long. Her case has not yet been resolved.
